ANR project: RAVEX

The project “Development of an integrated approach to reduce the risks associated with explosive eruptions, from research on hazards to crisis management tools: the case of Martinique” (RAVEX) proposes to develop an integrated approach to reduce the risks associated with explosive eruptions. It combines researchers specialized in the physics of explosive eruptions and researchers specialized in the study of public policies. Based on laboratory experiments and theoretical and numerical models, the objective is to study the phenomena that can occur in succession during most explosive volcanic eruptions and that generate particularly dangerous gas-particle mixtures: the collapse of volcanic fountains and the resulting pyroclastic density currents. We will seek to understand how these currents can cause tsunamis in coastal environments.
