This competition is open every two years. About thirty candidates apply for this competition.

Skills

Today these research activities take place within SIAME-EA 4581 (ex LASAGEC), a laboratory attached to the ISABTP. I belong to the "Interaction-Waves-Structures" team led by Stéphane ABADIE. They are also part of the MIRA federation.

The theme of my work is approached on a macro scale and is to be classified in the field of maritime hydraulics:

Experimental in situ measurements (regular bathymetric and topographic monitoring, permanent measurement of swell, current measurement campaigns, ...) These measurements are essential to better understand the phenomena at stake and allow the acquisition of a database essential for the calibration of numerical models.
Numerical modeling of the basic processes (swell, current, solid transport) in estuarine environment During the last few years I have developed various numerical models to model the swell and currents at the mouth of the Adour. For this I have used both the MOHID code developed by the IST Lisbon and the OPEN TELEMAC code developed by a consortium around EDF R&D. I developed operational models from the scale of the Bay of Biscay to the scale of the mouth of the Adour. The challenge of an operational model is to obtain a forecast at a few hours or days regularly updated. The calculation time is then an essential factor in the validity of the model. This work has been carried out within the framework of the EASYCO project (FEDER). Today, I am collaborating with Denis MORICHON in order to improve a 3D model that also allows to integrate sedimentary and diluted transport phenomena. The objectives here are different, as the computing time is important but the fineness of the modeling of the phenomena is not so important.
Wave statistics and impact at the coast. This topic is developed in collaboration with Stéphane ABADIE. We are interested in the statistical distribution of the swell off the south coast of Aquitaine using a combined strategy of observations and numerical simulations. In this context, we are currently working on the energy potential of this area.
The processing and analysis of the data used in the different themes described above
During this work, I acquired a good competence in the use of the free surface flow simulation codes MOHID and TELEMAC 2D or 3D, of wave propagation simulation SWAN or TOMAWAC as well as in programming under PYTHON.

After outside jobs Manuel returned to Siame where he has just presented his PhD thesis.

• Raphaëlle DORE 1 year post-doc from 2008 to 2009 in the framework of the Nivelle project with the Conseil Général des Pyrénées Atlantiques - Hydrosedimentary model of the port of St Jean de Luz-Ciboure in collaboration with the technological application unit CASAGEC. Raphaëlle passed away in 2012.
• Louis Romain PLUMERAULT, Effet de compressibilité sur les champs de pression pour des écoulements de vagues modélisés par l'eau aérée, Thesis defended in June 2009. Louis Romain founded the BE Institute in 2010.
• Jean DUBRANNA, Étude des échanges sédimentaires entre l'embouchure de l'Adour et les plages adjacentes d'Anglet, Thesis defended in December 2007. Jean is now a Research Engineer, Centre observation, impacts, energy, Mines ParisTech - PSL.
• Didier RIHOUEY Development of geostatistical analysis tools for coastal morphodynamic studies and the development of an empirical morphodynamic model . Thesis defended in September 2004.
• Didier is today president of CASAGEC INGENIERIE.
